    Paracanoe is an adaptive paddling program that offers on and off water activities to both youth and adults with a physical disability (mobility impairment, amputation, cerebral Palsy, CMT disease, etc).  The goal of the program is to introduce the participant to the sport of sprint kayak at a recreational level, teaching them in a fun and safe environment. If interested, there is opportunity to compete at regional, provincial and national level, please ask your instructor for more information.


    Pricing

    Spring Session, 3 x per week, May 18 - June 30 -  $150 +hst

    Summer Session, 3 x per week, July 1 - August 31 - $155 +hst

    Autumn Session, 1 x per week September 18 - October 30 - $50 +hst

    High Performance is for experienced paddlers ages 14+ who are interested in competition and reaching their full potential.

    Participants will be competing at the local and provincial level as well as National and perhaps International events and will be instructed according to Train to Perform standards of the Sport Canada’s Sport For Life Pathway. Athletes will be training 8-10 sessions a week focusing on both on-water and off-water workouts with a qualified coach. Competitive preparation will focus on singles and crew boats and will encompass goal setting and specific race strategy.

    Practice times may vary depending on competition schedule and weather. SNCC reserves the right to delay or end programming early due to weather, and/or water conditions, and enrollment

    Summer Session July 2 - August 31

    Monday-Friday 4:00 - 6:00pm

    Monday, Wednesday, Friday 6:00 - 7:30am

    Saturday 8:00 - 10:00am


    Requirements

    Paddlers must be at least age 14 as of January 1, have experience in sprint canoe/kayak and taken at least one program at SNCC or another CKC affiliate.

    Volunteering

    This program requires a minimum of 10 volunteer hours per family per year, or a $50 volunteer opt-out payment.

    SNCC’s Developmental canoe/kayak program focuses on teaching basic skills in sprint Canoe and Kayak for youth ages 10-15 in an encouraging and fun-focused environment. At the conclusion of the term, the paddler will be familiar with the joy of an active lifestyle and a heightened capability to enjoy the beautiful Welland Recreational Waterway.  

    Participants will have a chance to compete locally if interested (not required)

    A two week (9 day) introduction to the sport of sprint canoe and sprint kayak with a focus on developing fitness and introducing the fundamentals of balance, technique, and crew boat skills for racing. The camp culminates in a racing opportunity at the end of week two.

    Novice Racing Camp is supportive to beginners and those without previous canoe/kayak experience, however participants should be willing to challenge themselves as they progress. They should be enthusiastic to try out the competitive side of the sport.

    Novice Racing Camp will function both independently and combine with the Canoe Kids Camp to create a full day schedule. Canoe Kids Camp is focused primarily on fun and recreation, and will provide a complimentary balance to the competition focus of the Novice Racing component.

    All coaching, equipment and race fees are included in registration fee. All activities, including the race, will be taking place at the Welland International Flatwater Centre.
    A PFD must be worn at all times. Participants are encouraged to bring their own PFD every day.
    Camp runs each day 9 am - 4 pm. There will be no camp on holiday Monday, August 2, 2021.

    Canal Dragons (includes Hope Floats)

    We focus on fitness, paddling technique and fun.

    Adults of all genders and fitness levels welcome. 


    Dragon Boat on-water has been scheduled to begin August 4th.  Full boats are allowed, but we will keep closer to 10 persons in each boat until we are all feeling more comfortable with the reopening.  We will space every other seat left to right where possible.  e.g. seats 1,3,5,7&9 right and 2,4,6,8,10 left (or vice versa).  


    We are registered to race in the Hope Floats Challenge on August 28th.


    Proof of vacination is required.

    August - September 15 - Mondays, Wednesdays 6:30 - 7:45 pm

    Warm up at 6:30 pm, boats leave the dock at 6:45 


    There are no practices on holidays.

    Note:

    Dragon off-water training will continue until July 28th, beginning July 19th,  dragon boats will be on the water allowing up to 10 persons in each boat. Do consider coming out for the remainder of off-water training. Payment is by 50/50 draws each session.  You can register here for offwater training.

    This inclusive dragon boat session is designed for Special Needs individuals, employing the Paddles UP! Unlimited special needs coaching techniques. 

    Family and friends are welcome to paddle or watch.  All paddlers must register.

    Friday evenings 6:30 - 8:00 pm.

     August 6  - August 27,  $20

    Registration fee includes a t-shirt and registration for the grand finale racing day

    Saturday, August 28. 

     

    All equipment supplied.   

    Due to covid-19 it is recommended to bring your own life jacket if you have one.

    Learn to Paddle Sessions brought to you by the Ontario Trillium Fund provide the opportunity for Breast Cancer Survivor's together with their family and friends to try the sport of Dragon Boat or Sprint Canoe/Kayak in a safe and fun environment at no charge.

    Add your name to the list of individuals that would like to participate in the Hope Floats Challenge by joining a composite crew. Once we place you with a team, we will confirm by email and payment can be made at that time.


    Individual registration will be approximately $40 and will not be charged until you have been assigned to a crew.  

    The crew list will be finalized by August 1st 2021
